problems with premiere 6... HELP!

I have premiere 6 and have suffered some problems...
1)premiere keeps craxhing at ramdom times, why is this? i think it may because i havent patched it to the latest update, but im not sure.
2) it takes half a decade (almost) to produce a final movie. my machine is only a 450MHZ, but it has plenty of ram and a fiarly fast HDD, so why is this?

please help, because this is really holding the film i am shooting back a little!

what op sys. how is your drive config'd. wgat else running ( anti Virus ) etc

need more imput/info.

have you scalled the op sys performance to look after apps ? paging file split - space on all drives.

the OS is windows 98, and my drive is about 66RPM or something i think. this is where my knowledge goes all fuzzy. i have no virus scaners running, only the pinnacle systems magager, which i think i need for my capture card. do i need to fragement the drive?

We will get to virus contamination in a moment.


Start with compatability. Can the program run on your computer (modified or not) with your current specifications and operating system?

It should say on the box or in the read me file.

If it works ok for a while then seems to crap out or as you said crash at random times.

It could be that the program was released incomplete from the company. In what case you will need to contact the software company.

Start by phone with a specific list of questions written down.

If you are asking well formed questions that they can not or will not answer then you have hit a nerve.

Try again with another factory representative but not on a combatitive, that last guy was an idiot level.


Computer information to most people is like their car or the size of their breasts or dick an easily offednable subject.

If you get information from the factory, document it, try it. then work from there.


Now on to viruses and the confused individuals wh launch them.

You should be running a virus protection program and a firewall program or hardware system.

Obtaining all updates on a regulair basis.


Although I have seen numerous versions of both eaten alive and handed back to me like I won a prize at the County fair.

Unless you are going to do a permanent hardwire disconnect.

And this means disconnecting all outside input.

Including the Electric outlet!

This is a vast subject.

Take detailed notes as you go even if it seems to bog down the process.

I too am having difficulty with premiere 6
Whenever I wan to play it back to see what I edited, after about 6 seconds of playing, it for some reason speeds up as if it is fastforwarding. Why? Even when I'm exporting it back to video, it does the same thing! I can't do anything about it!

You can always do something about it!

I am not on a user level with these programs;
however.

1: Check to be sure it is not doing something it is supposed to and you are the problem.

2: If you are pressing the buttons in the proper order acording to the guide book, and still have a problem.

Take detailed notes of what you are doing up to and until the glitch, then contact the software company.

If it is a factory mess up you should be able to re-create the same effect over and over even if it is a crash!

For example:

(> means then I

Block changes indicate major changes in what you are doing)

Turned on computer > Turn on VCR > Put in tape > Pressed start button > Started program > Start VCR 1 > Pressed input icon on editing program

Found clip to transfer > Pressed record on editing program > Pressed stop in editing program > Pressed stop on VCR > Saved file > Produced file > ..............

as such.

Like driving a car, there is a process to an end result, however if the car is missing a major component.....


No matter what, if it is going to be viable you have to be able re create it time and again or it is just a fluke.

On the other hand if you have a virus or software glitch that is actually acting at random intervals, it is even more important to take detailed notes.

Nothing is more confusing than thinking to yourself well it used to work didn't it?
